Motueka to Carter's Beach (Westport) - 4/3/25

Today, we finally move on from Motueka, although I have enjoyed the days and area here, especially Mapua which was so lovely and the weather has been amazing the whole time we have been in the South Island so far apart from the initial arrival time.

Misty morning mountains

We are heading for Murchison but not totally sure where we will stop so are going with the flow and will stop where we feel like.  After packing up and heading off we head back to Nelson turn off on to SH6 as Daryl wants to stick to the main road and after a GPS hiccup involving a gravel road and a tight u-turn, we make out way to Murchison, where we stop for lunch.

Work in progress....

After a good lunch at the Riverside Cafe, we decide to press on the Westport and ph ahead to book at Carter's Beach Top 10.  We are aware there are some road works on the way.

Our turn to run the gauntlet

Carters Beach Top 10

Camp all set up.

Once set up in camp, we decide to go south to Cape Foulwind, noted as a place of interest with a lighthouse, it is not too far away and we can knock this off today.
Along the road up from Carters Beach to cape Foulwind, there are a number of subdivisions with sections for sale on the oceanfront.  Cheap living down here and on such a beautiful day you can see why some people are taking advantage and moving here.

Goochie loves this beach
After teas, we take the Gooch across to the beach
The 3 of us!
which is just across the road and he just loves
running around as free as a bird in the sun.

Later I go back to the beach to catch the sunset as
they recommend this at the camp and it was pretty good despite a bit of cloud on the horizon.
