Today we decide we will head up the Karamea coast to see how far we can go and take in Granity, a mining town.

| Driving through Westport |
| A working coal mine still operating |
Along the coast there are many houses just between the road and the ocean - they literally walk out their back door into the beach. May be a small flood risk...
We stop at Mokihinui Beach for a stretch. The stones are all colours and round.

| Looking South |
| Chasam on the river |
Main street of Seddonville
Next stop was Granity on the way back and we come across an art shop.
| See if you can read it all |
| An interesting artist... |
| Believe they do not like DOC staff |
Daryl was heading for the museum but it was closed due to renovations.
Coal train buckets - Goochie liked the shade.
| Aptly named Ghost Lodge |
| Another rotunda |
We keep heading back to Westport and stop to use the toilets at Dennison, to find a lovely hidden cafe where we had lunch. This was filled with artwork and carvings.
| Hanging bird feeder |
| Goochie enjoyed his seat |
| Rustic yard adjoining cafe |
| Craving in a tree trunk behind the cafe |

 | More artwork
After lunch, we headed up to the Dennison mine, about 8 km' up the mountain to the old coal mine. The views were absolutely stunning taking the narrow winding road to the top.
 | Westport in the distance
Views up north to Tasman Great views from the old coal mine incline platform
The incline walkway and steep incline from outlook.
 | Me & Goochie enjoying the views

Plenty of coal around, so Goochie got a free ride again Going back through Westport, we stop and pick up groceries and dog food. Some of the old buildings around town snapped out the window as we drove past.
After we get back to camp we take Goochie on his beach walk and then I go back to catch the sunset again.
